Uva Province Begins Rebuilding Schools After Cyclone Ditwah

In the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah, which heavily impacted communities across the Uva Province, the Uva Provincial Council, under the guidance of the Chief Secretary, has launched a major recovery initiative to repair, rebuild, and reopen affected schools.

This program aims to restore safe, functional learning environments for thousands of students whose education was disrupted due to structural damage, loss of materials, and unsafe school conditions.

A Province United for Education

Restoration teams are now active across Badulla, Monaragala, Bandarawela, Haputale, Ella, Passara, Mahiyanganaya, Bibile, Wellawaya and all cyclone-affected areas.

Current work includes:

• Repairing damaged roofs, walls, and classrooms
• Restoring water, sanitation, and electricity infrastructure
• Replacing destroyed furniture and equipment
• Distributing emergency learning materials
• Establishing temporary learning spaces where required

Schools, Companies & Societies Are Invited to Join

The Uva Provincial Council welcomes schools, companies, NGOs, welfare societies, alumni groups, youth clubs, and volunteer networks to partner in rebuilding.

Ways to contribute:

• Donate books, stationery, uniforms, or digital devices
• Provide engineering, construction, or technical support
• Support classroom repairs, playground restoration, or sanitation improvements
